Facebook Posture – Networking The Right Way

YouTube Preview ImageFacebook is an amazing social media site. Marketers can use Facebook to their advantage, but if used improperly, can actually hurt your image as a professional and leader.

People don’t want to be blatantly pitched on your opportunity.  Facebook is a social networking site, and as tempting as it is, adding thousands of friends with the intention of using them as your data-base for sales pitches is not what Facebook is all about, and in the eyes of other marketers, is a turn off, and could brand you as an amateur.

There are ways to show people who you are, and what you do, without shoving the “PITCH” down their throat. If  Facebook is used properly, people will be drawn to you, and that’s what you want.

Watch my video on this subject, taped from Santa Clarita, California, home of Six Flags Magic Mountain.

    Hey Joe,

You hit the nail right on the head!

There are so many network marketers lost as to how to market properly. Leading with their products and company, screaming “buy”, “buy”, “buy” without ever developing any type of relationship.

Value based marketing works wonders ;)

I look forward to connecting and networking further!

HI Neighbor, I have a nephew that also lives in Santa Clarita. Liked your video, it is right on.
Facebook is to make new friends, not to push your business. I am starting defriend people that keep sending me webinars, etc. to attend. I already have what I want…how can I help you should be the way to go.
How are you liking the weather, finally we are having some summer.

    Hi Joe,

    Excellent video and post.

    I agree.

I see how I can help people.

I like to be partners with them instead of competitors.

I know Santa Clarita, I lived in Ojai and I moved to St George Utah last November.

Would love to chat with you sometime.

Joe, I like your party analogy. It hits the nail on the head. On Facebook we first and foremost look for friends, hence the “friend” request.

    Thanks Monika,
I just thought the party analogy made sense.I’m glad you saw my video and

    Hey Rebecca,
I don’t actually live in Santa Clara, just about four hours north in the San
Joaquin Valley. I was visiting my daughter, and thought it would be a good
area to video my message..Thanks for the comment. Have a great day. Joe

I agree that Facebook is a great SOCIAL media opportunity, not a pitch-fest. People don’t join companies, they join people who they know, like and trust.

Thanks Joe you’ve given me an idea. When I’m pitched something on Facebook I’ll just send them to this post. Your analogy of the party is great. Thanks for sharing this.

    Thanks Joe,
I agree facebook is powerful and because of this they are coming down harder and harder on people that want to exploit it as a marketing site. So we build up connects on facebook, and let them come to us so to speck about the business. Even though I want to use it to share my business, I do not want to do it in facebook, I want to give something of value to my friends. What do you suggest to add value beyond what you have mentioned in your video to facebook that is none offensive? I add a quote in now and then, but how many quotes can a person use before even that is boring? Any ideas are very welcome.
    Thanks

    Hey Joe!

Love your scenery. Looks beautiful. Almost looks like you’re on a golf course. I can’t agree with you more. Facebook is for building “relationships”, not marketing your business. It’s not a pitch-fest. I can’t stand getting messages from people I don’t even know that shove their business in my face. Come on now! People need to stop that if they want to keep their friends.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I completely agree that everyone should be using Facebook as a relationship building tool. Syndicating other peoples content, sharing inspirational stories and adding value to the community is a great way to prove that your there to help people not to sell to people.

    Great post!

Facebook is interesting. I have met some of the most amazing people here but please will all the others stop spamming me. As I grow bigger online and I focus on my masterminds and tribes and genuine people I can help, I am planning on throwing out spammers. There is a very fine line between marketing and spamming.
    Great post. Keep it up.

    Great site Joe.

Two key distinctions that has created abundance in my life.

    1) Know your ideal client – Work with people who you’d love to work with and they love to work with you.

If they are not an ideal client, then I don’t offer them anything.

    2) In each conversation think “How can I serve this person? What can I do to make this person’s life better?

You become attractive by adding value without expecting anything in return.

I am not a network marketer but I have found Facebook to be a great tool for promoting my blog. Networkedblogs has been my greatest source of traffic to my blog.

    Joe,
Great post, I agree that Facebook must be used cautiously, subtly in order to make connections. No one likes a blatant pitch from someone they don’t really know or give permission too. You make some great points in the post and the video.
    Thanks,
    Adam
